# Labelling

Labelling covers the label and format requirements alcohol products need to meet in order to be sold in different markets and routes to sale.

In most EU and UK cases, labels do not require prior approval in order to be imported and sold, unlike some other markets where label approval is part of the process. Across the EU and UK, there is also significant overlap in both label requirements and accepted bottle formats.

### How it works in practice

Different alcohol categories can still carry different label requirements, and some market-specific differences can apply.

That said, many products can be prepared in a way that works broadly across the EU and UK, with similar required mentions, icons, and standard bottle formats.

### How labelling differs by route to sale

Labelling is usually less restrictive in B2B routes than in B2C and retail-facing sales.

In B2B, there is often more flexibility on both format and labelling depending on the customer and route.

In B2C and retail-facing routes, products usually need to follow more standardised bottle formats and label conventions in order to be accepted for sale.

That said, some retailers or larger chains may still insist on their own specific requirements.

### What Lexir supports

Lexir helps brands understand the label and format requirements that apply to their products, markets, and route to sale.

That can include support around:

* category-specific requirements
* broadly EU- and UK-ready labelling
* bottle formats suited to retail-facing sale
* retailer-specific requirements where relevant

For more detail, see the Labelling Guide.

### Labelling with Lexir

Labelling with Lexir means having guidance and support to prepare products for the relevant market and route to sale.
